You have found the digital home of Jost Tobias Springenberg; or Tobi for short. I am a research scientist with broad interests in the field of machine learning. My main research focus lies in understanding the fundamentals of sequential decision making (e.g. imitation and reinforcement learning). I like my models big and my data plentiful and apply most of my work to real world problems in robotics. See e.g. papers on Gato: A Generalist Agent, RoboCat and Scaling Offline Actor-Critic Algorithms for some recent examples of research that excites me.

I am currently a research scientist at Google Deepmind within the control team which generally focuses on applications of ML to control for science and robotics. Before I was a researcher at the University of Freiburg working with the Machine Learning Group and Computer Vision Groups. Even earlier I obtained a BSc. in Cognitive Science from the University of Osnabrueck – from which I still retain an interest in understanding human cognition – followed by a MSc. in Computer Science from the University of Freiburg.
I was born in Hilden, Germany and currently live in London, UK.
